Run for Ovarian Cancer

Susan Sandoval Run banner

Susan Sandoval Run for Ovarian Cancer

The Susan Sandoval Foundation for Ovarian Cancer was created to increase awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors for ovarian cancer as well as other gynecologic cancers (uterine, cervix, vulvar, vaginal and fallopian tube). The goals of the foundation are to educate and improve the care of women diagnosed with gynecologic cancers and focus on innovative research in this field. Susan Sandoval was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer in May 2005 and died May 2007, at the age of 50. She worked as a nurse at LDS and Primary Children’s hospitals for 21 years. She had many friends, talked passionately about patient care and rights, and had incredible strength within her to always look at the positive in life and make the best of every day.

In 2007, the Foundation hosted the inaugural Susan Sandoval Run for Ovarian Cancer. This event raised over $13,000 and had over 400 runners and walkers.

In 2008, with the help of our sponsors, we hope to raise over $20,000 and have more than 500 runners and walkers. The race will be held on September 13th, 2008 at Sugarhouse Park.

The proceeds from the race will be used to increase awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors for ovarian cancer as well as other gynecologic cancers (uterine, cervix, vulvar, vaginal and fallopian tube); and, also, to support innovative research in prevention, early detection, and treatment of gynecologic cancer.

Zoo Rendezvous

2008 American Express Zoo Rendezvous

September 4, 2008
6:00 – 11:00 p.m.

The Year of the Frog!

The American Express Zoo Rendezvous is our single most important fund raising event of the year and has been dubbed the “Wildest Party in Town” by City Weekly.

Make your 2008 reservations here.

Previous Rendezvous guests say, “It’s the one party of the year NOT to miss,” “we plan our schedule around the Rendezvous,” and “It’s the most fun I’ve ever had at a fund raiser!”

Thanks to the generous donations of supporters like you, all proceeds from Zoo Rendezvous are dedicated to animal care and capital improvements. By supporting our fundraising event, purchasing a syndicate ticket (attendance not required) or making a silent auction selection, you can help us provide you, your children and your children’s children an invaluable resource and unforgettable experiences.

The Zoo cares for nearly 900 animals representing 212 species. Twenty-eight of these species are considered threatened or endangered.

Why frogs?

This year, the Zoo is participating in a global effort to save vanishing amphibian species, the Year of the Frog, and this will make for a fun theme for the 2008 American Express Zoo Rendezvous.

Habitat loss, climate change, pollution and disease are causing amphibians to become extinct at an alarming rate. Frogs are the planet’s proverbial “canary in a coal mine.” Utah’s Hogle Zoo has been called upon to support the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA)’s global action plan for amphibian conservation.

$150 per person or sponsorships starting at just $350

No guests under 21, please
All proceeds go to animal care and exhibit improvement at Utah’s Hogle Zoo.
For more information, please call (801) 584-1708.
