Sustainable Farming, Sustainable Wine...Sustainable Life. This class is designed to educate the attendee on the virtues of sustainable farming. By practicing environmentally friendly farming we yield truer flavors. The sense of place is realized and authentic wines are created. Wines we will taste: Bonterra, Frogs Leap, King Estate and Fetzer. The class will be taught by Joe Padilla. Joe has been in the wine and hospitality industries for 20 years. He has worked as a Manager, Chef and Sommelier, as well as, owned a restaurant in Salt Lake City. After closing his restaurant he opened a wine brokerage which was absorbed by Young's Market Company, which represents over 300 wineries. Young's was established in 1888 in California and is one of the largest wine and spirits wholesalers in the United States. *Beer Tasting Class 6:00pm (separate ticket required-$15/person) UTAH BREWERS COOPERATIVE Dan Burick the brewmaster at Utah Brewers Cooperative will lead a tasting of 4 beers: Wasatch Pumpkin Ale, Squatters Organic Amber Ale, Wasatch 1st Ammendment Lager and Squatters Full Suspension Pale Ale. We'll also have a general discussion on what beer is, what ingredients are used to make it and about the brewing process. Utah Brewers Cooperative was created in 2000 by the separate owners of Wasatch Beers and Squatters Beers. Both sets of owners, having been friends for years, were tired of being competitors on the streets. So they cam together to create a brewery to make both lines of beers for the public under one roof. The economics of bringing the two together was pure genius and has been a total success. The pubs are still run by the separate owners, but all come together for the co-op. All proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure with 75% of the funds remaining in Utah to fund breast cancer education, treatment and screening programs. The other 25% of the net proceeds is sent to Komen headquarters to fund their Research Grants Award program. For more information please contact the "Taste" committee at: | |
